Try the activities below with your Girl Scout or troop to learn more about the night sky.

Solar System Model: Have your girl scouts create a solar system model with each planet represented. They can use foam balls, paper plates or even slime! This will teach them about the order of the planets and their relative sizes.

Pictionary: Play a game of astronomy-themed Pictionary. Create a list of space-related items and have your girl scouts take turns drawing and guessing what each of the space pictures are.

Scavenger Hunt: Set up a scavenger hunt with pictures or models of planets hidden around the area. Each girl scout or group must find and correctly identify the planets in our solar system.

Edible Moon Phases: Use cookies or biscuit dough to create edible representations of the moon's phases. This tasty activity combines learning with a delicious treat.

Planetary Hoop Walk: Use hula hoops or other circular objects to represent the orbits of planets around the sun. Have girl scouts walk around the "sun" to simulate the movement of planets.

Space Bingo: Create bingo cards with space-related terms or images. As girl scouts learn about different astronomical concepts, they can mark them off on their bingo cards.

Create constellations: Learn about famous constellations and their stories. Have girls use star maps or apps to identify constellations in the night sky. And/or provide art supplies and have scouts create their own constellations on paper. They can invent stories to go along with their unique star patterns.

Observing Lunar Phases: Teach girls about the different phases of the moon. Have them observe and sketch the moon over several nights, noting the changes in its appearance.

Space Crafts: Set up a crafting station where girl scouts can make star-themed crafts, such as glow-in-the-dark stars. Use glow in the dark paint, and then turn the lights off to see your creation come to life!

Nighttime Tales: Encourage your girl scouts to create and share their own stories inspired by the night sky. This activity combines creativity with an appreciation for the beauty of the stars.
